A place to understand how Hawaiʻi was settled and how early Polynesians thrived.

Wayfinders is the cultural and educational heart of Kūmau Farms.

Inspired by Polynesian navigators who crossed the Pacific using agriculture, stars, wind, and waves. It explores the deep connection between land, people, and knowledge passed across generations.

Wayfinders is a living place defined by land, story, and agricultural practice.

THE WAYFINDERS STORY

Why Wayfinders Exists

What You’ll Experience

What You’ll Experience

Long before maps, Polynesian voyagers found their way across the ocean through observation, memory, and relationship with the natural world.

Wayfinders exists to reconnect visitors with:

  • How land was understood before it was owned
  • How knowledge was carried without books
  • How decisions were made for generations, not seasons

What You’ll Experience

What You’ll Experience

What You’ll Experience

Wayfinders brings together story, space, and landscape.

Rather than scripted tours or static displays, the experience is shaped by:

  • Interpretive elements inspired by Polynesian navigation
  • Views that connect learning directly to the land below
  • Quiet places to pause, reflect, and observe
  • Guided interactive conversations that encourage curiosity

Rooted in the Land

Who Wayfinders Is For

Who Wayfinders Is For

Wayfinders is inseparable from Kūmau Farms.

The crops, terraces, and pathways you see outside are part of the story. Farming here more than just production. It’s stewardship shaped by place, water, wind, and time.

Here, land and culture aren’t separate ideas. Each gives meaning to the other.

Who Wayfinders Is For

Who Wayfinders Is For

Who Wayfinders Is For

Wayfinders is for those willing to slow down and pay attention.

It’s designed for people interested in how land, culture, and decision-making have worked together over long periods of time and what that perspective offers today.

All that’s needed is curiosity, humility, and respect for place.

ABOUT

Kūmau Farms is a working agricultural experience, shaped by long-term stewardship.

Kūmau means to stand firm, to endure, to persist.

It’s the spirit that carried voyagers across the Pacific and the same strength that roots this farm to its land today.

Kūmau is more than just a word - it’s a practice.

The farm brings together regenerative agriculture, land stewardship, and cultural responsibility as part of a single, living system.

Wayfinders is the cultural and educational expression of that system. It is part of Kūmau Farms’ permitted agri-tourism use, where agriculture, landscape, and knowledge come together, and where the stories and ways of thinking that guide the land are shared, explored, and kept alive.
